Artificial Intelligence (AI) start-up PROWLER.io hires two world-leading machine learning researchers
Prof Carl Edward Rasmussen joins as chairman, while Dr Enrique Munoz de Cote fills senior machine learning scientist role at Cambridge-based enterprise
Cambridge, 15 November – Fast-growing AI venture PROWLER.io has expanded its team with the introduction of top machine learning talent: Prof Carl Edward Rasmussen and Dr Enrique Munoz de Cote.
Dr Rasmussen is professor of Machine Learning at the Department of Engineering at Cambridge. His academic career includes PhD with Prof Geoffrey Hinton at University of Toronto, consultant at Rambøll Informatics and positions at the Technical University of Denmark, the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit at University College London and the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen. Prof Rasmussen is a world leading authority on Gaussian processes, reinforcement learning and probabilistic inference.
At PROWLER.io, he will assist the team with addressing the fundamental challenges in modern AI which are automatic data driven learning and decision making and interpretation of decisions of AI systems.
Launched in January 2016, PROWLER.io is the world’s first enterprise to focus exclusively on autonomous-decision making using AI. This moves away from limited decision trees for AI, which are based on ‘if X then Y principles’, to focusing on the development of self-learning, autonomous bots.
Prof Rasmussen is joined by Dr Enrique Munoz de Cote, who has been appointed as PROWLER.io’s senior machine learning scientist. The award-winning researcher joins from INAOE, where he resides as an associate professor, focusing on intelligent systems, machine learning and human-computer interactions. Dr Munoz de Cote brings unique experience of multi-agent behavior, researching how autonomous bots, such as drones, can be trained to work together. Bringing his research into the virtual world, by working with PROWLER.io, will enable him to take this research to the next level.
Prof Rasmussen and Dr Munoz de Cote will begin by using their experience to boost PROWLER.io’s research into the autonomous decision-making – enabling next-generation games, with self-learning characters and bots which are able to communicate with humans and each other. They will also support PROWLER.io’s long-term vision of using its technology to develop sophisticated AI for autonomous cars and decision support systems for smart cities.
The introduction of two new team members follows shortly after a £1.5 million seed funding round for PROWLER.io, which included investment from Passion Capital, Amadeus Capital and Singapore Infocomm Investments.
